What’s Golden Hour and why is it the best time for a photo shoot?

The Nashville area is filled with great locations to have family photos and weddings. Just like any location, there are times of day that are WAY better suited for getting your family photos taken. The worst time for photos that we actively avoid is during mid-day, roughly around 12 (noon). This is because the sun is at its highest point in the sky, creating very harsh shadows on peoples face that’s not aesthetically pleasing for anybody. So, that leads into the question… when’s the best time then?

Golden Hour is the BEST time of day!

If you haven’t heard the term “Golden Hour” before it’s simply the time of day that’s right before sunset that gives us that beautiful lighting that photographers love for their photo shoots. I exclusively aim to schedule all of my family sessions for that time of day to get the looks that you see in my Family Portfolio consistently. I’d recommend Families with little one(s) to be well rested and have a snack before sessions around this time to make sure they are in their best mood as possible!

If Golden hour doesn’t work for you, the next best time would be mornings!

For any reason you’re not able to make a golden hour session, there are no worries! I am always happy to accommodate with a morning session on the weekends. The goal for a morning session is to make sure we shoot early in the morning before the sun gets to high in the sky. It also helps that kids typically have their highest energy in the mornings too! That way, they’re in a good mood to start out with. I’d still recommend that they have had breakfast prior to it so they don’t become hangry during the session.
